Working with sheets of film

Almost every type of film used in the advertising industry can be coated with SurACer® 4450, with the exception of glazed decorative film and reflecting film. SurACer® 4450 invites you to explore the many uses of domed foil.
If self-adhesive foil is to be coated with SurACer® 4450, the backing paper must be silicated. The sheet format which is easiest to process and to post to the recipient is DIN A4. However, it is perfectly possible to produce DIN A3+ materials (500 x 400 mm).

The self-adhesive foils (from which the waste has been removed) must be laid flat on the bed and must be without any surface billowing. It is possible to achieve this with a spray adhesive intended for »non-stick« bonds, for example.
Any printed surfaces must be suitable for SurACer® 4450 coating. It is possible to use SurACer® 4450 to coat the products of all common printing processes, even those with a textile base. If dyes containing solvents are used for the print, they must stand for at least 12 to 24 hours before being coated. It may be necessary to paint such dyes with a protective lacquer.
At the margin of the film, there should be approximately 5 mm left free all round.

The distance between areas treated by doming must always be at least 2 to 3 mm. All corners should be rounded off. This applies even to pictograms and script.
Standard radii should be maintained of 2 mm outside and 1 mm inside. This makes it easier to fill the corners, as the coating will not flow of its own accord into acute angles and it would require painstaking effort to make it do so.

On subsequent trimming or stamping, the carrier paper must not be cut into. The waste on the label sheets (from the stamping process) must be removed before they are coated.
Despite the many applications possible, it is advisable that, in every case, the user test the suitability of the special foil being used. The notes given here do not affect the tips on adhesion given by the foil manufacturer.
If, however, the customer is trying to get the doming to adhere to a difficult base surface such as glass, mirrors, ceramics or materials which tend to develop a greasy surface, the use of the SurAChem VG 02 mini-torch is recommended.
